How to Grow Caraway From Seed!

The quick and convenient step by step guide to growing your very own Caraway Herb!

Caraway is most often grown for its seeds, but the root and leaves are also edible.  Caraway is a biennial plant that produces seeds the second season after planting.  The first season it forms a rosette of leaves 8-10 inches tall that resembles a carrot with a long tap root.  The second season the plant grows to 2-3 feet tall and produces a large, flat-topped flower head with white flowers.

Growing Caraway Herb!

# 1 | Caraway grows best in sandy or well drained soil and full sun. It does not transplant well, so direct sowing after the last spring frost is recommended. Caraway can also be planted in the fall.

# 2 | Plant the seeds 1/4" deep in rows 18" apart, later thinning the seedlings to 6-8" apart.

# 3 | Germination of caraway is notoriously slow, but under the right conditions can sprout in under 14 days.
